University of Minnesota to buy Shriners hospital

Minneapolis-based University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents announced its offer to purchase 10 acres along the Mississippi River that includes Shriners Hospitals for Children in Minneapolis has been accepted, reports Duluth News Tribune.

Four things to know:

1. The hospital features a small prosthetics factory and was listed for sale last winter.

2. Tampa, Fla.-based Shriners operates the hospital, which provides free care for children with orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions.

3. Shriners is also planning an outpatient pediatric orthopedic clinic in Woodbury, Minn., which is set for completion by summer 2020.

4. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
