Rockville, Md.-based National Spine and Pain Centers added two practices — Gainesville, Ga.-based Specialty Spine and Pain and Spine and Millennium Pain Center in Chicago — to its growing network.

Five things to know:

1. The acquisitions expand NSPC's presence to over 70 locations in nine states. The company previously raised $32 million to support future transactions and IT infrastructure, according to a report in the Washington Business Journal, although the amount of the two recent acquisitions was not disclosed.

2. NSPC CEO Doug Wisor, MD, told the Washington Business Journal that the acquisitions were part of the company's strategy to expand beyond the Washington, D.C., area and it expects to make additional acquisitions in the next year.

3. Under the clinical leadership of Keith Robinson, MD, SSP treats patients for several spine disorders and chronic pain conditions. It has provided pain management services to North Georgia and greater Atlanta for over 20 years. Dr. Robinson is past-president of The Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and Dr. Benyamin is past-president and director emeritus of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.

4. MPC, under the leadership of Ramsin Benyamin, MD, provides pain management services in six locations across Illinois.

5. NSPC now supports about 900 employees and its physicians see around 1 million patients per year.
