Atlanta-based Emory University will break ground on a musculoskeletal center addition this fall to kick off a $1 billion investment in a 60-acre "health innovation district," according to Reporter Newspapers.

What you should know:

1. Emory recently announced plans for a $1 billion mixed-use development spanning 60 acres in Atlanta's LaVista Park neighborhood.

2. Emory plans to add a musculoskeletal center onto its existing Orthopaedics & Spine Center as the first phase of the plan.

3. Emory's planned campus is across the street from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's new medical complex development. The two developments will bookend each other.

4. Emory is still developing the project's timeline.
