The Joint Commission recognizes New Hampshire hospital's spine program: 3 details

Practice Management

In April 2018, Derry, N.H.-based Parkland Medical Center became the state's first hospital to receive The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for spine surgery, the New Hampshire Union Leader reports.

Three details:

1. Surveyors were impressed by the hospital's third-floor recovery wing for patients undergoing elective spinal surgery, according to Joanne McCourt, Parkland's vice president of quality. It has six rooms where patients receive around-the-clock care.

2. Parkland Medical Center launched its spinal surgery program about two years ago, offering treatments for cervical spine disease, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, osteoarthritis, sciatica, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and more.

3. The Gold Seal of Approval "shows increased quality of care that we're providing for our spine surgical patients," said Kathy Marschner, the hospital's surgical services director. "It's all based on evidence-based practices that we brought in."
