5 orthopedic surgeons at The CORE Institute add robotic-assisted total joints

Practice Management

Five surgeons from The CORE Institute's Novi, Mich.-based location now perform robotic knee and hip replacements.

Four things to know:

1. Orthopedic surgeons David Markel, MD, William Higginbotham III, MD, James Bolz, MD, William Kesto, MD, and Jeffrey Michaelson, MD, perform robotic-assisted total knee and hip replacements using the Mako Robotic-Arm at Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi.

2. Dr. Markel was among the first surgeons to use the technology at the hospital last December during a total knee replacement procedure. "The robot will further reduce recovery time and improve outcomes and help our patients return to their everyday active lives as quickly as possible," he said.

3. The technology links the patient's anatomy to a CT scan and computer for robotically assisted, minimally invasive procedures.

4. The CORE Institute includes 19 locations in Arizona in addition to facilities in southeastern Michigan.
