Philadelphia International Medicine partnered with the Panama City-based Panama Clinic to establish an educational and clinical care exchange between physicians from eight Philadelphia-based hospitals and physicians from Latin America and the Caribbean, according to The Inquirer Daily News.
Four things to know:
1. The agreement is designed for U.S. physicians, residents and students to receive mentorship from affiliate physicians in Jamaica, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Panama.
2. The exchange of educational and clinical care knowledge will focus on neurology and telemedicine, among other areas. Patients in Panama will also be able to receive U.S. medical care as part of the exchange.
3. "The idea is to position and understand that Philadelphia is a vanguard city when it comes to medicine," said Edgar Vesga-Arias, CEO and president of Philadelphia International Medicine. "Connecting [Philadelphia] to an international hub like Panama opens doors of positive economic exchange between both cities."
4. Philadelphia-based hospitals involved in the partnership include: Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, Vincera Institute, Temple University Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Wills Eye Hospital, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, Fox Chase Cancer Center and Renfrew Center.
