Data breach strikes All-Star Orthopaedics: 5 things to know

Irving, Texas-based All-Star Orthopaedics notified patients of a data breach, DataBreaches.net reports.

Five things to know:

1. A hard drive with patient data was stolen Nov. 20, 2018.

2. The hard drive contained X-rays and other diagnostic images. The information on the hard drive was not encrypted, but special software is required to access the information.

3. If opened, the image files contain patients' names and birthdates.

4. There is no evidence the data has been accessed or misused.

5. All-Star Orthopaedics has implemented new security measures in response, including encrypting hard drives prior to transport. The practice notified law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
