Cleveland Clinic to raise minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2020: 5 things to know

Cleveland Clinic is making its goal to raise the minimum wage for employees to $15 per hour by 2020, according to Cleveland.com.

Here are five things to know:

1. In January 2019, 1,900 employees will see a pay increase to $14 per hour. The $15 per hour rate will affect 2,900 employees, known as "caregivers."

2. Cleveland Clinic raised its minimum wage to $12 per hour in 2015. This was a jump from the federal minimum wage, which sits at $7.25 per hour.

3. The upcoming pay jump only applies to employees who do not make $15 an hour currently.

4. Cleveland Clinic employs 53,000 people. Workers who will see the pay increase include environmental service workers and patient care nursing assistants.

5. Cleveland Clinic is not the only hospital or health system to raise its minimum wage. Duke University Health System in Durham, N.C., plans to raise its minimum wage to $15 by 2019.
