North Carolina hospital launches Excelsius GPS robotic surgery system: 3 notes

Practice Management

Morganton, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge hospital implemented robotic surgery system Excelsius GPS to assist with spine surgery, according to Morganton News Herald.

Here are three things to know:

1. The Excelsius GPS system is designed to assist surgeons to more accurately place implants in minimally invasive spine surgery.

2. Spine surgeon Jason Zook, MD, used the technology for the first time Nov. 13.

3. "[The system] allows us to put hardware into the spine almost exactly where we want it to go and eliminates any uncertainty,” Dr. Zook told Morganton News Herald. " It's new, and the first one in this area. The closest one is an hour and a half drive away."
