Cookeville (Tenn.) Regional Medical Center will purchase a Smith & Nephew robotic-assisted surgery platform, according to Herald-Citizen.
Here are four details:
1. Orthopedic surgeons will use the robotic system to perform hip and knee replacement surgeries.
2. The robot, software, installation and training for surgeons will cost the hospital a collective $770,000, according to the report.
3. CRMC CEO Paul Korth said the new technology will designate the hospital as the only facility in the upper Cumberland, Tenn., area to offer robotic-assisted total knee replacement surgery.
4. "Demand for joint replacement is growing, especially in our region that is home to more and more retirees relocating to our area," Mr. Korth told Herald-Citizen.
