Here, Dr. Snibbe discusses value-based care in orthopedics and joint replacement.

Question: What technology and techniques are most exciting for you in the future?

Dr. Jason Snibbe: I think the most exciting technology is robotic total joint replacement surgery. It provides incredible accuracy and the outcomes have been very promising.

Q: How do you evaluate new technologies and techniques?

JS: I evaluate new technology by studying the benefits and risks. Then I spend time in cadaver labs learning the techniques and understanding the process. Once I feel I have mastered the technique and see the benefit, I will incorporate it into my practice.

Q; Is your practice moving toward value-based care? How does new technology fit in, whether you're taking cases to a hospital or outpatient surgery center?

JS: My practice started bundled payments in our surgery center and started collecting data on the outcomes. We are able to provide specialized care in a private setting compared to a hospital. The new technology fits in to the hospital and surgery center. When technology changes the patient experience and outcome, it should be part of your entire practice.
