Rapides Regional Medical Center completes $2.5M neurosurgical suite with Brainlab: 5 insights

Practice Management

Alexandria, La.-based Rapides Regional Medical Center became the first in the state to offer the Brainlab neurological suite.

Here are five insights:

1. The $2.5 million Brainlab suite is located at fewer than 100 hospitals in the country.

2. At Rapides Regional Medical Center, the Brainlab includes:

• Ario: a mobile intraoperative CT scanner that gives surgeons flexibility to access real-time patient images without leaving the operating room.
• Curve: a navigation system that is designed to provide surgeons more precision when operating.

3. The suite also integrates a Zeiss 4K/3D microscope to allow surgeons to visualize the surgical site, real-time imaging and instrumentation in one field intraoperatively.

4. With the Brainlab, Rapides Regional Medical Center surgeons will be able to perform more complex cases in central Louisiana, including minimally invasive procedures, deep brain stimulations and specialized spine procedures.

5. Brainlab technology is designed to reduce the need for revision and follow-up surgeries.

“Brainlab is privileged to collaborate with leading institutions like Rapides Regional Medical Center,” said Stefan Vilsmeier, president and CEO at Brainlab. “These partnerships enable us to constantly deliver above and beyond customer expectations, and to ultimately deliver the industry’s most advanced image-guided navigation technology — making an immediate positive impact on overall surgeon performance and potentially on patient outcomes.”
