Mayo Clinic opens new orthopedic, sports medicine clinic: 5 things to know

Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn., unveiled its new orthopedic and sports medicine clinic April 18, The Free Press reports.

Here are five things to know.

1. The health system began the $5 million upgrade in 2017, which nearly doubled the space and includes 16 exam rooms and radiology services.

2. A former gift shop at the hospital's west entrance was refurbished into the new clinic's waiting area.

3. The new clinic will offer a range of orthopedic care, including sports medicine and joint replacement surgery.

4. The clinic currently employs five full-time orthopedic surgeons and will hire more, according to orthopedic surgeon Robert Freed, DO.

5. The hospital plans a $65 million hospital surgical suite expansion on the second floor, which will add eight operating room suites in September and endoscopy suites in October.
