Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger sent a letter to its health plan members stating Scranton (Pa.) Orthopaedic Specialists will no longer be in-network, according to The Citizens' Voice.
Here are five things to know.
1. Geisinger recently cut ties with Allentown, Pa.-based Coordinated Health. After the decision to separate, Coordinated Health acquired Scranton Orthopaedic Specialists, causing Geisinger to also cut ties with the orthopedic group now known as Coordinated Health Scranton Orthopedics.
2. To ease orthopedic patients' minds, Geisinger acquired Professional Orthopaedic Associates in Scranton (Pa.). The groups new name is Geisinger Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Scranton.
3. Geisinger created the partnership to ensure orthopedic specialists are still available to patients in the surrounding area.
4. Coordinated Health officials indicated it was Geisinger's decision to part ways. The group also agreed to bill roughly 6,000 affected Geisinger health members still at in-network rates, including patients with Geisinger Medicaid plans.
5. Geisinger also plans to cover between 10 percent to 15 percent of Scranton Orthopedics' patients, nothing the discounted rate will likely have an expiration date. For now, patients can expect the agreements to continue through the calendar year.
