Here are five things to know:

1. Jackson Healthcare, an Atlanta-based, $1 billion company, encompasses healthcare staffing, search and technology services. Its companies assist 1,300-plus healthcare organizations treating 7 million-plus patients every year.

2. Richard L. Jackson, chairman and CEO of Jackson Healthcare, highlighted Dr. Price's "physician, business and policy experience," making him an asset to the board. In the press release, Mr. Jackson noted: "Nobody has as profound an understanding of the national healthcare landscape as Dr. Price."

3. Throughout his career, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Price served as managing partner of Atlanta-area Chattahoochee Associates and was a founder of Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics.

4. He was a Georgia state senator from 1997 to 2005 and a U.S. House of Representatives member from 2005 to 2017. Dr. Price also served as HHS secretary from February to September 2017, when he resigned amid an inspector general investigation into his private plane use for government business trips.

5. Dr. Price completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta.

"I am honored to join the advisory board at Jackson Healthcare," Dr. Price said. "Jackson Healthcare's mission of working to improve patient care is wholly aligned with the work I have done for over four decades, and I look forward to helping them navigate the always changing healthcare environment."
