Practice Management

Syracuse (N.Y.) Orthopedic Specialists has plans to relocate its outpatient surgery center to Cicero, N.Y., according to syracuse.com.

Here are six things to know:

1. Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists filed an application for $2.3 million in tax exemptions over 10 years with the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency for the relocation. The exemptions are broken down into $1.7 million for property tax discounts and $552,790 for sales tax exemptions on construction materials.

2. The new surgery center would cost $13.5 million to construct and would create 40 new jobs.

3. The practice wants to relocate its surgery center, Specialists' One-Day Surgery, to a larger space. The current surgery center holds six operating rooms and two procedure rooms, and cannot meet the increasing volume. Further, the surgery center isn't equipped for complex spine, foot ankle and joint replacement surgeries.

4. The new space encompasses 47,713 square feet, holding eight OR rooms, a recovery area and extended recovery area.

5. Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists' CEO Michael Humphrey anticipates the new surgery center treating 8,000 to 9,000 patients annually.

6. Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists would transform its current surgery center into a pain management office.
