RNs made $80k in 2016 earnings — RN & LPN compensation insights

Medscape asked nurses about their compensation in its new "RN/LPN Compensation Report 2017."

Of the nurses, 5,072 were registered nurses and 2,034 were licensed practicing nurses. Annual RN earnings grew to $80,000 in 2016, up from $78,000 in 2015. LPN earnings also increased to $46,000 in 2016, up from $43,000 in 2015.

 

The following indicates RN 2016 earnings by practice setting.

 

•    Occupational health: $84,000
•    Hospital inpatient care: $82,000
•    Hospital-based outpatient or clinic: $80,000
•    Insurance/health plan: $78,000
•    Academic: $78,000
•    Skilled nursing facility: $77,000
•    Hospice care: $76,000
•    Home health: $75,000
•    Non-hospital-based medical office/urgent care: $69,000
•    Public health: $68,000
•    School health services: $65,000

 

The following indicates LPN 2016 earnings by practice setting.

 

•    Insurance/health plan: $59,000
•    Skilled nursing facility: $49,000
•    Hospital inpatient care: $46,000
•    Hospital-based outpatient or clinic: $44,000
•    Home health: $44,000
•    Non-hospital-based medical office/urgent care: $42,000
•    Public health: $42,000
•    School health services: $38,000
