The 35-physician Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Associates in Long Island, N.Y., joined New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health.
Here are five things to know:
1. Orlin & Cohen includes eight locations on Long Island and staffs around 80 healthcare professionals to support the orthopedic surgeons focused on joint replacement, spine surgery, sports medicine and extremities. The practice also includes imaging, physical and occupational rehabilitation and pain management.
2. Orlin & Cohen CEO Michael Passet will serve as the CEO of the new entity, named Orlin & Cohen Medical Specialist Group, and lead it through continued expansion.
3. The partnership between Orlin & Cohen and Northwell expands the health system's presence in the south shore of Nassau County and complements inpatient services that Northwell offers at 12 hospitals on Long Island.
"Both organizations have strong ties to the communities we serve throughout Long Island and a shared commitment to clinical excellence, making this collaboration especially meaningful for both our patients and other community-based providers," said Mr. Passet.
4. Earlier this year, Northwell entered into a partnership with Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute to bring the practice's orthopedic expertise and co-branding into the New York market. The health system also purchased 20 percent of the Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester in Harrison, N.Y., reserving the right to purchase an additional 31 percent within the next five years, according to InnovateLI.
5. Northwell Health includes 22 hospitals overall and 550 outpatient facilities, boasting nearly 15,000 affiliated physicians. The health system employs 3,900 physicians covering more than 100 medical specialties.
