Federal regulators: Swedish Cherry Hill back in compliance with Medicare program

Seattle-based Swedish Cherry Hill Campus will continue to take part in the Medicare program, following a regulatory investigation, according to The Seattle Times.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Due to a state Department of Health investigation for various issues, including patient safety, the campus had a 90-day window to achieve compliance or be removed from the Medicare program.

 

2. Regulators report Cherry Hill successfully brought its facility back into compliance regained its Medicare status.

 

3. During their investigation in August, health officials uncovered patient safety concerns as well as a "culture that discouraged staff from questioning the hospital's quality of care," The Seattle Times reported.

 

4. The investigation found fault in Swedish executives for not addressing staff concerns or adverse patient events.

 

5. The U.S. Department of Justice is also conducting an investigation into Swedish Cherry Hill Campus, brought on by concerns over financial incentives and double-booked surgeries, among other problems.
