Seven Colorado-based orthopedic practices, comprised of 56 orthopedic surgeons, are coming together to create a super-group: Orthopedic Centers of Colorado.

Here are five things to know:

1. The seven practices combined now have 19 office locations across the Denver metropolitan area. The seven combining groups include:

• Advanced Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Specialists
• Colorado Orthopedic Consultants
• Denver Spine Surgeons
• Denver-Vail Orthopedics
• Hand Surgery Associates
• Orthopedic Associates
• Peak Orthopedics

2. The groups began operating as a combined practice on Sept. 1, hoping the larger group will give them economies of scale without joining a hospital. "The private practice model has proven to deliver a higher level of quality at a more competitive price," said Davis Hurley, MD, president of Orthopedic Centers of Colorado. "Patients will continue to benefit from the more personalized approach that private practice delivers to accommodate each patient's needs."

3. OCC will remain a physician-driven organization to navigate the ever-changing healthcare landscape. The combination won't disrupt care, and patients won't see a difference in service.

4. The new practice includes specialists in arthroscopic surgery, cartilage repair and regeneration sports medicine, total joint replacement, neck and spine surgery and spinal deformity.

5. The united group has a common vision of improving outcomes efficiency, cost and quality.
