In a recent Medscape report, hosptialists and non-hospitalists reported their compensation for patient care within seven specialties.

The compensation comparisons include:

 

1. Anesthesiology:

• Hospitalists: $343,000

• Non-hospitalists: $366,000

 

2. Neurology:

• Hospitalists: $279,000

• Non-hospitalists: $245,000

 

3. Obstetrics and gynecology:

• Hospitalists: $262,000

• Non-hospitalists: $288,000

 

4. Psychiatry:

• Hospitalists: $245,000

• Non-hospitalists: $232,000

 

5. Internal medicine:

• Hospitalists: $252,000

• Non-hospitalists: $211,000

 

6. Family medicine:

• Hospitalists: $236,000

• Non-hospitalists: $207,000

 

7. Pediatrics:

• Hospitalists: $204,000

• Non-hospitalists: $202,000
