Medscape: Orthopedists top list again for highest earners — What do they make?

Medscape surveyed more than 19,200 physicians in more than 27 specialties on their salaries.

The survey revealed an average annual full-time compensation of $294,000 for all physicians. While primary care physicians checked in at $217,000, specialists reported a 46 percent jump to an average compensation of $316,000.

 

Medscape further broke down average annual physician compensation by specialty. Here are the 10 top earners:

 

1. Orthopedics: $489,000

 

2. Plastic surgery: $440,000

 

3. Cardiology: $410,000

 

4. Urology: $400,000

 

5. Otolaryngology: $398,000

 

6. Radiology: $396,000

 

7. Gastroenterology: $391,000

 

8. Dermatology: $386,000

 

9. Anesthesiology: $364,000

 

10. General surgery: $352,000
