A recent PracticeMatch survey revealed physician assistant and nurse practitioner pay and job satisfaction are rising as both professions become increasingly competitive and sought after.
Here's what you need to know:
1. Roughly 12 percent of respondents increased their income eight percent or more in 2016.
2. PracticeMatch COO Mike York said, "Our clients have increased their hiring of nurse practitioners and physician assistants in recent years, to the extent that we have expanded our products and services to offer additional support to employers of PAs and NPs, and resources for those clinicians as well."
3. Approximately 14 percent of respondents reported receiving a signing bonus. Signing bonuses had once only been standard for physicians to receive but PAs and NPs are receiving them at rising rates.
4. Nearly two-thirds of PAs and NPs earn between $75,000 and $125,000 annually, with about 30 percent earning between $101,000 and $125,000 in 2016. Reported median salary for all respondents was $100,000 annually.
5. Responding physician assistants and nurse practitioners are satisfied with their current roles:
- 6 percent reported dissatisfaction with their careers
- 38 percent are "very satisfied" with their careers
- 25 percent of total participants are "extremely satisfied" with their careers
