AAOS selects 1st female chair of board of specialty societies — Meet Dr. Lisa Cannada

Lisa K. Cannada, MD, is the first female chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' board of specialty societies.

The academy announced the appointment during the annual meeting in San Diego on March 17, 2017.

 

Here are seven notes:

 

1. Dr. Cannada serves as an associate orthopedic surgery professor of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, and practices at St. Louis-based Mercy Medical Center.

 

2. Dr. Cannada began her tenure with AAOS in 2007 as a leadership fellow. She has served on the resident candidate and fellow subcommittee and was chair of the board of specialty societies' match oversight committee.

 

3. Dr. Cannada was also chair of the membership committee and edited the AAOS Orthopaedic Knowledge Update 11.

 

4. In addition to her work with AAOS, Dr. Cannada served on the Orthopaedic Trauma Association board of directors as well as created the association's young practitioner's forum.

 

5. She is co-founder of Women in Trauma and served as president of the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society.

 

6. Specializing in mangled extremity, polytrauma patients and complex fractures, Dr. Cannada researches clinical outcomes as well as fracture repair and healing.

 

7. She completed her trauma fellowship at Baltimore-based R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
