Practice Management

Health and Human Services Secretary and orthopedic surgeon Tom Price, MD, commented on the GOP's ACA replacement bill — the American Health Care Act.

Here are issues Sec. Price discussed:

1. Sec. Price called the repeal bill a "work in progress" and hinted the document would undergo various changes before being finalized, according to the Washington Examiner.

2. While many conservative lawmakers were upset the bill kept pieces of the ACA infrastructure in place and Democrats criticized its neglect of low-income citizens, Sec. Price called the bill a "step" in the process.

3. The former Georgia Congressman explained the three phases of the healthcare reform plan, according to Real Clear Politics. He said, "One is the bill that was introduced last evening in the House of Representatives... Second are all the regulatory modifications and changes that can be put into place… And then there's other legislation that will need to be addressed that can't be done through the reconciliation process."

4. When asked to reflect on whether the bill met President Trump's stated goal of providing "insurance for everybody," Sec. Price shifted the conversation to the ACA's impact on rising premiums and deductibles, according to ABC News.

5. Regarding the bill's name, Sec. Price said he prefers "PatientCare" to "TrumpCare."
