Orthopedic surgeon in race for Georgia Senate seat: 5 things to know

Three medical field professionals are vying for a state senate seat in Georgia, according to The Marietta Daily Journal.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The April 18, 2017, election will replace former Senator Judson Hill in the State Senate district 32.

 

2. Orthopedic surgeon Kay Kirkpatrick, MD, is running and campaigning against seven other candidates. She previously served as president of Resurgens Orthopaedics in Atlanta.

 

3. Dr. Kirkpatrick specializes in hand surgery, and completed her fellowship at the Kleinert Institute of Hand & Microsurgery in Louisville, Ky.

 

4. She announced she is in support of repealing the ACA; simplifying the tax code and decreasing the regulatory burden on businesses.

 

5. Royden Daniels, MD, a radiologist in Atlanta, and Bob Wiskind, MD, a pediatrician in Atlanta, are also in the race for the Senate seat.
