Medscape compiled a list of books written by physicians, addressing a variety of health-related topics.

Drug Dealer, MD: How Doctors Were Duped, Patients Got Hooked, and Why It's So Hard to Stop — By Anna Lembke, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford (Calif.) University Medical Center

Dr. Lembke addresses the nation's opioid epidemic in this book, investigating the true causes of patients getting hooked. She pinpoints quick-fix pills; pharmaceutical corporations; and an industry favoring pills and patient satisfaction over wellness as the root causes of the epidemic.

Starved: A Nutrition Doctor's Journey From Empty to Full — By Anne McTiernan, MD, PhD, cancer prevention research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle

Dr. McTiernan sheds light on her own childhood, when she struggled greatly with her weight. She tiptoed the line of malnourishment, obesity and obsessive dieting. In Starved, Dr. McTiernan hopes to reveal the tangled emotions wrapped inside of eating disorders.

Mind: A Journey to the Heart of Being Human — by Daniel J. Siegel, MD, clinical professor of psychiatry and director of University of California, Los Angeles' Mindful Awareness Research Center

With Mind, Dr. Siegel emphasizes the importance of physicians understanding the mind. He believes by caring as much for the body as the mind, physicians can improve the mental well being of their patients and themselves. The book's pages are filled with research on how the mind boosts immune function as well as enhances telomerase levels to repair chromosome ends, among other abilities.
