The ECRI Institute announced the top technology hazards the healthcare industry should heed in 2017, according to Medscape.

Here are the top 10 health technology hazards:

 

1. Large-volume infusion pumps causing potentially fatal infusion errors

 

2. Poor cleaning of complex reusable instruments

 

3. Overlooked ventilator alarms

 

4. Unnoticed opioid-induced respiratory depression

 

5. Cardiothoracic heater-cooler devices causing infections

 

6. Software management gaps

 

7. Occupational radiation dangers in hybrid operating rooms

 

8. Mistakes setting up and using automated dispensing cabinets causing medication errors

 

9. Surgical stapler misuse or malfunctions

 

10. Cleaning products or processes causing device failures
