Ohio Independent Collaborative, Anthem BCBS partners for Medicare Advantage — 5 things to know

Practice Management

The Ohio Independent Collaborative is partnering with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for patient-centered care for Medicare Advantage patients.

Here are five key notes:

1. The agreement is designed to lower healthcare costs while improving quality. Anthem is the first major payer contract for the Ohio Independent Collaborative, formed Jan. 1, 2016.

2. Anthem launched the Enhanced Personal Health Care primary care program in Ohio in 2013 and to participate in the program OIC physicians must meet quality performance goals, including CMS clinical quality measures that align with Medicare Stars and the National Committee on Quality Assurance.

3. The physicians who maintain or improve quality could earn value-based incentives compensation through the shared savings model. Anthem's support will help promote OIC-affiliated independent providers and share best practices.

4. Anthem Medicare Advantage members could see benefits from using OIC providers, whether they need care for a chronic or acute condition.

5. Anthem is making an investment in primary care by increasing revenue opportunities for participating providers and supporting experts in patient-centered care devoted to the patient-centered model.
