A report found healthcare companies are three times more likely to encounter data theft than average firms, according to CSO.
Here are five facts:
1. The healthcare sectors experience 340 percent more security incidents and attacks than other sectors.
2. Additionally, healthcare is nearly 400 percent more likely to experience advanced malware and 450 percent more likely to be hit by Crypotwall.
3. Many healthcare organizations may negotiate with criminals because of the extremely sensitive nature of patient files. However, experts advise healthcare organizations to not pay a ransom because this does not ensure the files will be returned.
4. Healthcare organizations are victims of not only more threats, but a wider variety of threats. This makes it challenging for security professionals to protect organizations against such threats.
5. Internet hackers have a wider attack surface as more healthcare organizations are moving their data to electronic health records and sharing data with providers, clinics and payers.
