Practice Management

In an Anesthesia Business Consultants blog post, Neda Ryan, Esq., an associate with Clark Hill focusing on healthcare law, discusses steps that physicians can take to properly terminate a relationship with a patient.

The five steps are:

1. Give appropriate written notice.
2. Give a brief explanation of the reasons for termination of the relationship.
3. Agree to continue to provide treatment and access to services for a reasonable period of time to allow the patient to secure care from another person.
4. Provide resources or recommendations to help the patient locate another physician of like specialty.
5. Offer to transfer the patient's records to a designated person.
