Here are five things to know:
1. Inter Valley said misunderstanding the extent of coverage Medicare Advantage plans provide trips up many older adults when enrolling.
2. The government rates plans on a scale from one to five, indicating the network of physicians and the quality of help plans provide.
3. Although many plans have no monthly premiums, some have deductibles and copayments. Enrollees may want to calculate their past healthcare costs before choosing a specific plan.
4. Some plans include extra services, like dental and vision.
5. Open enrollment spans Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.
“It’s critical that enrollees determine what is important for them from a health, budget and services standpoint,” said Ronald Bolding, president and CEO, Inter Valley Health Plan. “It’s our job to continue to educate and let them know they are not alone in this decision.”
