Illinois health system opens spine, orthopedic-only hospital — 4 insights

Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem opened a spine and orthopedic hospital in Skokie, Ill.

What you should know:

1. NorthShore recently opened the Orthopedic & Spine Institute. The institute provides both outpatient and inpatient treatments, including joint replacement, fracture care and complex spine surgery.

2. More than 100 NorthShore clinicians staff the institute.

3. NorthShore built the institute in response to demand for orthopedic care. In 2018, NorthShore clinicians cared for more than 11,000 orthopedic and spine patients. Over the past six years, NorthShore has increased its caseload by 42 percent.

4. NorthShore Skokie Hospital President David Rahija said patients often travel for “expert orthopedic and spine care at the level we are providing.”
