Dr. Rotering writes that the training and knowledge of physicians is just as high now as it was in the past when physicians were revered and loved. A majority of physicians are also trying to improve their skills and the care that they provide.
Dr. Rotering suggests some ways in which physicians can counteract doctor bashing. Some of her suggestions include:
• Having the courage to speak up and promote the positives about their systems, hospitals and providers.
• Continuing to express compassion to friends and family who have suffered disappointments with their healthcare providers without joining the bash.
• Promoting empathy for the challenges physicians face, and helping to educate others about the pressures on physicians in today’s turbulent environment.
