Athens (Ga.) Orthopedic Clinic, an orthopedic and sports medicine group, will serve as official team physician for Morgan County Schools in Georgia, according to a July 8 news release shared with Becker’s.
Under the partnership, AOC will deliver comprehensive sports medicine services, led by Shane Smith, MD, and the AOC sports medicine team. Student athletes will gain access to AOC’s clinical network covering sports medicine, physical and occupational therapy, hand and wrist, shoulder, foot and ankle, spine and pain management, joint replacement, and the region’s only orthopedic ASCs.
“This partnership further reflects our commitment to care for our neighbors at every stage of their lives,” said Mike Boblitz, CEO of AOC. “Our ortho urgent care and MRI services are available seven days a week, as we understand the importance of prompt access to care so student athletes can get back to practice as quickly as possible.”
“I can’t think of a better way to support them than by offering direct access to the best orthopedic physicians in our region,” Greg Thompson, Morgan County Schools athletic director, said, citing AOC’s expertise and preventive care focus as central to the agreement.
AOC serves more than 230,000 patients annually with a team of 79 physicians, advanced practice providers, and outpatient therapists across northeast Georgia, according its website.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
