Factors Influencing Physicians’ Decisions to Switch EHRs: 6 Statistics

 

System functionality and cost are the primary drivers of dissatisfaction with electronic health record systems, according to a national survey commissioned by Medical Economics and administered by MPI Group.

The survey includes responses from nearly 1,000 physicians.

 

When asked which factors influence their decision to switch EHR systems, respondents reported the following:

 

•    System functionality — 67 percent
•    Cost — 48 percent
•    Poor customer service — 33 percent
•    Company reputation — 19 percent
•    Platform of software (server vs. cloud) — 18 percent
•    Lack of certification for meaningful use stage 2 — 16 percent
