Here are four things to know:
1. The device exposes children to about a 10th of the radiation of traditional X-rays while providing more information and higher-resolution images.
2. Doctors at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network have used the device to help them treat spine, hip and leg disorders since December and have reported positive results.
3. EOS’ 3D imaging helps plan surgeries and, in severe cases, helps surgeons place rods, hooks and screws to straighten spine.
4. The five-second scans allow doctors to see inside joints and ultimately inform scoliosis braces’ designs.
