Employed Vs. Self-Employed Physicians: Who Earns More?

 

Self-employed physicians earn a higher compensation as compared to those employed by healthcare organizations, according to the Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2014.

According to the report, the earnings of employed and self-employed physicians are as follows:

 

All physicians (including primary care and specialty care)

 

•    Self-employed — $281,000
•    Employed — $228,000

 

Primary care physicians

 

•    Self-employed — $188,000
•    Employed — $180,000

 

The report includes responses from more than 24,000 physicians in 25 specialties.
