Here’s what you should know.

1. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services awarded EmergeOrtho a certificate of need, over a competing facility Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health wanted to build.

2. EmergeOrtho is incorporating the new surgery center into its Brunswick Forest facility. The ASC will have one operating and two procedure rooms.

3. The ASC could be open as soon as January 2019.

4. As part of the decision, EmergeOrtho must meet a series of provisions. The center can only have one ASC, the project’s proposed equipment can’t exceed $4.2 million and EmergeOrtho must agree to the state conditions in writing.
