The physician-owned El Paso Specialty Hospital cited financial and operational reasons for closing at the end of 2018. The hospital had more than 100 healthcare providers, many focused on orthopedics and spine. A partnership with Surgery Partners, the hospital also provided emergency care, weight loss surgery and gynecological procedures.

Providence Medical Partners hired many of the surgical hospital’s providers to boost its orthopedic services. Providence is a network of physicians located across El Paso and is affiliated with four medical centers. Providence specialties currently include gastroenterology, cardiology, urology and women’s services.
