Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Gottlieb was confirmed by a 57 to 42 Senate vote on Tues., May 9.
2. Dr. Gottlieb will divest himself from several healthcare companies and won’t make decisions involving these businesses for one year.
3. As a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, Dr. Gottlieb extensively wrote on FDA policy.
4. He previously served as the FDA’s deputy commissioner under President George W. Bush’s administration.
5. One of Dr. Gottlieb’s biggest priorities will be to speed up the drug approval process with the 21st Century Cures Act signed into law last year by President Barack Obama.
