In early September, the state passed a bill that temporarily bars the board from disciplining therapists employed by medical corporations. Multiple organizations, including the California Orthopaedic Association, is working to pass a permanent legislative fix by adding physical therapists and other providers to the list of professionals who can be employed by medical corporations.
In the meantime, orthopedic practices can still provide physical therapy and bill for the services using independent contractor agreements, according to the report.
