Community Health System is headquartered in Franklin, Tenn., and operates 198 hospitals in 29 states.

Here are five things to know:

1. Patients using CHS-affiliated hospital services may access VirtualHealth Now, an American Well telemedicine service providing primary urgent care after hours and on weekends.

2. CHS-affiliated hospitals, AllianceHealth Oklahoma and Rockwood Health System in Spokane, Wash., are the first to implement the telemedicine platform.

3. Patients at the two Washington hospitals may access physician care via smartphone, computer or tablet at any time.

4. The two organizations plan to expand the collaboration to Arizona and Pennsylvania markets.

5. Local community physicians will staff VirtualHealth Now, so patients feel comfortable with treatment provided by physicians they know.

“Healthcare consumers are increasingly seeking care that is easier to access and more convenient,” said Lynn Simon, MD, president of clinical services and chief quality officer at CHSPSC. “In a highly connected and mobile world, it makes sense for us to leverage technology to deliver non-emergent care directly to patients in a manner they prefer.”
