Coastal Orthopedics hit by data breach

Bradenton, Fla.-based Coastal Orthopedics was hit with a data breach that may have exposed sensitive information of current and former patients, the Bradenton Herald reported Aug. 14.

The practice noticed suspicious activity on its networks June 11, the report said. An investigation is ongoing, and the practice found files and folders in the network were taken without authorization.

Information including names, Social Security numbers, financial information and medical records may have been affected, the report said.

Coastal Orthopedics didn’t provide the Bradenton Herald with an estimate of how many people were affected by the breach.
