The CDC and Joint Commission received input from 12 professional associations and 11 healthcare systems to compose the new resources. Additionally, interviews were conducted between podiatry, orthopedic and pain management outpatient facilities to gain insights on challenges and specific scenarios.
Adaption and Dissemination of Outpatient Infection Prevention Guidance is a free, online tool that is part of an initiative that began in 2015 to disseminate CDC guidance for infection prevention and control in the outpatient setting. The guidance is designed to improve practices while protecting patients and staff.
The resource comprises two guides:
• “Guide to Infection Prevention for Outpatient Podiatry Settings”
• “Guide to Infection Prevention in Orthopedic and Pain Management Office Setting:
The additional resources feature education and training, safe injection practices, medical device reprocessing and environmental cleaning, among other topics.
