Tyler-based Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital has faced a cybersecurity incident impacting patient data.
On Jan. 15, the system detected that an unauthorized party gained access to a Microsoft Office 365-hosted business email account, according to a March 14 notice on its website.
An investigation determined that the party had access to the account between Jan. 10 and Jan. 14, and may have gained access to patient demographic information, medical or treatment information and billing and claims information.
Patients’ Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, credit and debit card information, bank account information and account passwords were not impacted, nor were the hospital’s internal network and systems.
In response to the incident, the system is enhancing its digital security and monitoring capabilities.
