Banner Fort Collins (Colo.) Medical Center has opened a new neurosurgery department.

Neurosurgeon Eric Arias, MD, will lead the department, which provides care for conditions including herniated discs, spinal stenosis and instability, according to a March 11 news release from Banner Health.

He is one of the first neurosurgeons in Northern Colorado who performs disc replacements, which can provide improved patient outcomes compared to traditional spinal fusions.

Dr. Arias graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and completed his residency and fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, the release said.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
