Approximately 31% of CMS’ 5-star hospitals are physician-owned: 4 things to know

Physician-owned hospitals have earned high marks for patient care in CMS’ new Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating program, according to a Physician Hospitals of America report.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. The program featured 102 hospitals in the nation that received five star ratings, of which 934 hospitals have four stars.

 

2. Of the 102 five-star rated hospitals, 37 hospitals were physician-owned.

 

3. The results show 83 (approximately 52 percent) of the 159 eligible physician-owned hospitals received either four-or five-star ratings in the program.

 

4. CMS will update the ratings every quarter.
