Apex Spine and Neurosurgery suffers data breach

Apex Spine and Neurosurgery in Bethlehem, Ga., experienced a data breach affecting 2,500 individuals.

On Dec. 23 staff discovered an unknown actor accessed part of the computer network and installed a virus to lock files, the practice said in a Feb. 5 notice. An investigation found the breach happened on Dec. 9.

Data that may have been copied include addresses, phone numbers, financial information and health information. Data on the practice’s EHR weren’t affected by the breach.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2,500 people were affected.
