Surgeons in a single specialty group received more ($489,125) on average than surgeons in a multispecialty group ($456,816).

By hospital situation:
Surgeons in a hospital ownership situation received on average $498,000, which was approximately $43,000 more than surgeons in a not hospital ownership situation.

By region of the country:
Pediatric orthopedic surgeons practicing in the south received upwards of $100,000 more than their counterparts in the east and west. Surgeons were compensated at $551,562 in the south, $428,626 in the west and $397,907 in the east.

By city size
:
While no data was available for surgeons in cities with a population less than 250,000 people, the data does show that surgeons practicing in metropolitan areas with a population of more than one million earned slightly more ($498,000) than surgeons practicing in areas of 250,000-one million people ($493,527).
